Locomotives owned by the club or its members

This 7.25" Hunslet was built by EMES members whilst attending a model Engineering course at Sandwell College. They made a fine job of it, naming it 'Sandwell Lady' as a tribute to the college. It is popular with visitors to the Wythall site and a powerful passenger hauler. It is one of the main stays of the Wythall passenger operation since the opening in 1998.
This amazing 7.25" Stainer 'Black Five' was built to the 'Highlander' design. It was donated to the society by Mr J Ferstone of Wythall. A professional church organ restore, modeler and model engineer of outstanding abilities. EMES members were bowled over by the man's generosity. Work was required to enable the society to use this loco. The boiler had to come out of the farms to be inspected by the boiler inspector, passed with fling colours, a coat of pant and it was ready for service. It is one of the main stays of the Wythall passenger operation since the opening in 1998. It is to been seen in service on many open days in memory of this kind chap, now at rest. It failed its required boiler test in 2004, a tube was leaking, it was decided to retube the boiler. This was carried out 2004/5. The work was carried by D Herbert and J Gorton. The retubing was written up and published in the ME Feb 2006 addition

John Sander's attractive 0 6 0 Saddle Tank '1399' has worked tirelessly this season, pulling many loaded trains on open days and outside events. It has a most interesting steam driven donkey pump which ticks away like a clock.
John Sander's 4-4-0 'Pint Pot'. This engine isn't seen regulary in passenger as it isn't powerful enough to pull the trains up the gradient from the viaduct. Its currently awaiting a boiler ticket.
James Gorton's 0-6-0 Tank Engine 'Bruno' this is a regular performer at Wythall as well as Chesterfield Mes. It was built in the Mid 50's used on portable tracks in the Stourport area. It disappeared for a number of years, and was found in a near Barry scrapyard state in a cellar in Bromsgrove where flats had been worn onto the wheels as it was dragged across a concrete cellar floor. It was restored by D.Herbert into its present condition.

Frank Abbott's 4-4-0 Maid of Kent, this engine isn't used very often as it hasn't got the power to pull the heavy trains up the gradient from viaduct. It has however for a reputation for being a fast engine. Its currently awaiting its new boiler certificate. Just A Bit Of Fun

Here is Alan Ruston's beautifully made Hunslet 'Austerity Royal Engineer', another loco he built from scratch using only measurements from the full size loco.

Alan  steaming another scratchbuilt loco. This time he brought quarry Hunslet 'Alice' along. Alan drew this design back in 1979, it later became the popular Reeves' design 'Elidir'.
